Giant Cadex 980c Road Bike Refurb

New project, but no pictures yet. I'm refurbishing a 1990-ish Giant Cadex 980c road bike. It's unique because it was Giant's first carbon fiber frame (bonded to aluminum lugs). It's a little grungy, and it was inexplicably spray-painted yellow and red... with a kick stand. But it was loved, and I'll post some pictures of the progress.

Good luck with the refurb. I'm refurbishing the same frame with an Ultegra group from the early 2000.

any progress? I just bought the same frame, planning to paint this winter. I'm very happy with it, my first real bike!

Here's the progress post...

I'm putting 30-60 miles on it per week, though still a bit of a work in progress. I gave up on stripping the paint down to the clearcoat covering the original frame. Also, I'm going to swap the rear 105 11-25 for an 11-28 I have in the spares box and put in a second-hand, newer 105 compact crank and bottom bracket. I've also got plans to swap the stem for a threadless adapter so I can get a little more reach.

I have a 91 Cadex that I have put almost 23,000 miles on. It has mostly Dura Ace. I love it and it always served me well, but I just broke down and bought an 08 TCR2.

I recently upgraded my Giant Cadex 980c carbon fiber bicycle with new Shimano Sora STI brake shifters, new Tiagra crankset and bottom bracket, Ultegra brakes, and all new cables, retained the 105 derailleurs. I also, replaced the original handlebars with Sampson carbon fiber bars which really made it a very nice ride. If anyone is interested I can send pics. rohnwright@gmail.com
